This one hour class, geared for younger children, is divided into 30 minute sections, introducing boys and girls to the wonderful world of dance. It’s structured to familiarize children with a classroom environment where they will learn the basics of ballet and tap dance in a fun and engaging manner with dance-based games and activities. This class will promote creativity in movement and development of gross motor skills. In the ballet portion of class, the students will learn the basic arm and foot positions, as well as basic ballet terminology and movements. During the tap portion of class, students will learn rhythm and patterns, as well as basic tap terminology and movements. This class is great at helping develop cognitive and physical development in children.
Ballet is the foundation of dance. It is an essential dance form that helps build strong, able dancers that can successfully navigate their way through all other styles of dance. Through the graceful discipline of classical ballet, dancers develop proper body alignment, placement, flexibility and strength. They will learn the structure of a ballet class and terminology. Ballet classes work through barre exercises, stretching, strengthening, and center floor combinations..
Tap uses syncopated rhythms to create a pattern of sounds. Tap dancers will build on flexibility of their knees and ankles. Tap classes begin with proper warm up techniques for the feet, ankles, and knees, and work to center combinations, turns, and across the floor movements in various tap styles, including traditional and contemporary tap.
Jazz is one of the most popular forms of dance and can range in style from the most classic jazz square to the more current funky and modern steps. Jazz class begins with proper warm-ups, isolations, stretching and conditioning. Center floor work consists of turns, leaps and weight shifting moves, with focus on proper body alignment, coordination and flexibility.
*Must have completed two years of ballet and be enrolled in ballet and/or jazz concurrently.
Lyrical, uses the "lyrics" and emotions of a song to interpret a story through dance. Lyrical dance allows for the artist to explore their space, body and movement through the combined studies of jazz and ballet. Lyrical dance is a free flowing and less restrictive evolution of ballet. Classes will begin with a proper warm-up that includes stretching and strengthening of the muscles, and then continues with center floor work, turns and leaps, as well as free, expressive movement.
Any aspiring musical theatre performer will love this fun and high energy class. Musical Theatre begins with a jazz based warm up, with proper ballet technique sprinkled in. Students will develop a solid technical dance foundation and improve strength, flexibility, coordination, and musicality. This class will focus on the bright lights of Broadway with its emphasis on dance and story-telling through the body.
With Broadway music at its core, this class has it all, drama, dance, and song! This class incorporates vocal coaching, dance steps, and acting techniques to prepare aspiring young artists for realistic auditions and careers in theater. This class helps students build confidence through the performing arts, strengthening their communication skills as both performers and people. Students will work with the instructor on musical pieces and dramatic readings, in an individual and group setting.
